I have been wondering whether the feeding cormorants could be disturbed by the regular use of a drone. This could be used when they are both feeding or resting and would not directly harm the birds, something that needs to be avoided at all costs. The regular disturbance may 'persuade' them to feast elsewhere. Drones are not excessively expensive although if one of our members could borrow one it could be trialed to assess whether this was an effective control measure.
A drone may also have an use in disturbing poachers.
Hi Morgan, I know very little about them but just had a look via google and a new one with about 20min flight time, home return fitted with a camera is about £550. not excessive if it works and expels the birds. Would need to take the advice of an expert but probably the more you pay the better the device.
Could definitely be worth a shot. The only downfall with a lot of drones is their relatively short flight time.
I can always ask around and find one to give it an attempt though.
