    New this season

    Hi all,

Just saying hello as this will be my first season fishing in the valleys.

My father (Nic) and I have tried over the last few years in varying locations in the area to not much luck, we're not hugely experienced fly fishermen and are looking to get out on the rivers more than we have the last few years to get some decent fishing in.

We were planning on taking a few walks down the Rhymney to start with to get an idea of the rivers depth and access etc... so that we aren't surprised by what we find when the season opens in March and waste good days struggling to get started.

Would anyone have any suggestions for good places for us to take a look at and see first? We live near New Tredegar so easy access from here would be especially nice, however, I'm yet to see a single fish on my walks along the river between Pontlottyn and New Tredegar, might just be me haha!

    Tight Lines.

Hey Simon, thanks for the advice! We would like to take you up on the offer once the season starts. A few bits that would be really useful to know would be good places to park along the river that allow access. Something we don't have almost any experience of is the geography around the river, especially the Ebbw which we've never been too before. Knowing where to park and walk to the river from will open up the access so much faster than attempting to put it together by ourselves using google maps etc...

    Hi segarty.

parking for the ebbw is so easy and access to walking the ebbw could not be any easier most of the river can be walk no matter where you park but if I was you I would take a look at risca ruby club car park it’s right along side the river cross keys park is another parking it also is right along side the river j28 is the bottom of the river again it’s along side the river. There are so many it would be best to show you them as soon as season starts I would be more than happy to show you them but the ones I mentioned should be easy for you to fined if you wanted to nave a look at the ebbw

@Simon Barton Thank that would be great! Thanks. We were planning on going for a walk soon pre-season to take a look with an idea of where to go on opening weekend :)

@Alan (welshfly ) The old map/diagram of the stretched we could fish I got sent by @Morgan Evans show the Access from Pontlottyn all the way down to Draethen, minus Sladden's Weirs in Llanbradach, unless I've read them wrong or they have changed since these were drawn up? I know there are new images being made at the moment so unless I'm told otherwise I'll not share them here to not cause confusion. I do plan on fishing the others too through so looking forward to those :)
